Iteration 08
Hopper realizes that the IA investigation and Eddie might be connected. He talks to Rita about it. She says he should help Andrea, and he replies that it might not be that simple. Rita says he should at least try.
He removes the GPS tracker from his car and goes to Andrea's house to warn her about Eddie. Eddie is there and accuses Hopper of calling in the drug test that got him fired. Hopper says he wasn't doing his job and Eddie says Hopper will treat Andrea the same way. Hopper stomps out of the house.
He calls Chad and asks him about the murder from 1991. Chad doesn't know about Garza yet, but he is angry about Hopper with Rita and won't help him. Hopper calls around trying to track down the crime again. He receives a call from an unknown caller. It's the Mastermind. He wants Hopper to meet him in Elysian Park and give him the two packages. In return, he will tell him what's going on.
Hopper goes to the park and looks for a trap, but he sees no one. Andrea calls. He tells her he has no time for her, but she's crying and asks him for help finding Eddie and dealing with IA. Hopper is torn. He might be able to end the day with the information from the Mastermind.
Andrea tells Hopper she's been with Eddie for a long time. She knew he was using, but she had helped him get clean. After Hopper left that morning Eddie became very angry. She's afraid he's going to get killed.
Andrea's problem with IA is because Eddie got used to taking home "free samples" when he was a cop. After he was let go from the force, he didn't get free samples, so Andrea pays off the drug dealer and gets stuff for Eddie.
They find him at a warehouse holding a gun on two people (dealers? I suppose so.) He's high. Andrea and Hopper run in and point their guns at him. The two people run and Eddie grabs Andrea and points his gun at her. Hopper talks to him. Eddie was a cop seven years before Hopper and Hopper still got promotions before Eddie. Eddie started using because he felt less than Hopper. Then he nearly got them killed because he was using. Eddie tosses Andrea away from him and points the gun at himself.
Hopper tells him he didn't call the drug test in and Eddie pauses. Hopper talks him into letting him help and Eddie puts down the gun.
Iteration 09
Hopper wakes up at Rita's and is ready to leave when his phone rings. He's stunned. This has never happened before. Previously, the day had not changed without his actions. It's Andrea. She's taking Eddie to rehab. He goes over to her house and she tells him she felt different. Where previously she had felt hopeless every morning, today she woke up and felt good. She's called her lawyer and told him that she would tell IA everything.
Eddie comes out of the house. He's surly, but he goes with them. In the back seat, Eddie finds the photograph from Jen's package. He recognizes it and he thinks Hopper is trying to remind him of what sort of cop he used to be.
The picture is from when Eddie was a rookie. He was the first cop on the scene. Jane Doe dumped in a car off Figueroa. Hopper's father was the lead detective, but the case was never closed because evidence went missing.
Hopper rushes to his apartment and opens the package. The hourglass has a fingerprint on it.
Now we're getting somewhere. Can't wait to find out what happens next. Is Hopper's dad dirty? Does Eddie know something else?
